The Rules Have Changed. The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has officially aligned the HCS exam pattern with the UPSC Civil Services. The biggest update? Optional Subjects are officially GONE. If you are preparing for the April 26, 2026, Prelims, your strategy must shift from "Subject Mastery" to "General Studies Breadth." Here is the decoded syllabus and pattern for the 2026 cycle.

HPSC HCS Prelims Syllabus 2026
Before starting the preparation for HPSC HCS, candidates should review the syllabus to know about each topic that is asked in the exam. The preliminary exam consists only of MCQ-type questions. The detailed syllabus of the HPSC HCS prelims is mentioned below for your easy access.
HPSC HCS General Studies Syllabus
The cut-off marks are based on the paper I for the main examination. The GS syllabus is divided into the following topics:
General Science
Current Events of National and International importance
History of India and Indian National Movements
Indian and World Geography
Indian culture, Indian polity and Indian Economy
General Mental Ability
Haryana Economy and People. Socioeconomic, cultural institutions, and language of Haryana.
HPSC HCS CSAT Syllabus
The CSAT exam is only a qualifying exam; the marks of this exam are not considered for the cut off. If a candidate gets 33% marks in the CSAT, then the candidate is eligible for further consideration.

Phase II: Mains Pattern (The Big Shift)
Total Marks: 600 | Duration: 3 Hours per Paper The removal of the 200-mark Optional Paper levels the playing field. It has been replaced by two additional General Studies papers.

International Affairs and Institutions:Important events in world affairs and on international institutions.
Science and Technology: Basic Science up to Class X, Space Technology.
Statistical Analysis, Graphs, and Diagrams:Statistical, graphical, or diagrammatic form, and point out deficiencies and limitations.
Phase III: Personality Test (The Final Frontier)
Dates: August / September 2026
Marks: 75 Marks
Grand Total for Merit: 675 Marks (600 Mains + 75 Interview)

HPSC HCS 2026: Eligibility & Requirements
Before you dive into preparation, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria set by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).
1. Educational Qualification
The Golden Rule: You must hold a Bachelor’s Degree.
Degree: A Graduation Degree in any discipline (Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Medicine, etc.) from a recognized University.
Final Year Students: Yes, you can apply!
Condition: You must possess the final degree mark sheet/certificate before the date of the Mains Examination (or the specific closing date mentioned in the official notification).
Note: There is NO minimum percentage requirement (e.g., 50% or 60%) in graduation. You just need to pass.
2. Age Limit (As on 1st January 2026)
The age eligibility is determined based on the post you are applying for. The cut-off date for age calculation is 01.01.2026.
